In April 2005, I purchased an existing website offering free SEO tools as a way to participate in the internet and as a diversion from a full-time position in a Fortune 10 company. However, most of the php-based scripts either did not work properly or required revision because the search engines were constantly tweaking the code that Siteometrics was tapping into. Since I did not have any background in programming, I posted a help wanted ad in one of the more popular forums (Sitepoint). The programmer that I hired (Vantrix) proved to be both very capable and conscientious. Our relationship continued until she stopped providing freelancing services for personal reasons. During this time, Siteometrics suffered, almost to the point of joining the deadpool of websites. Even though Alexa rank is highly questionable for providing precise website popularity, the Alexa rank for Siteometrics peaked at ~30,000 in early 2006 (as of March 2008, it is ~500,000). As further indication of the acceptance and popularity of Siteometrics, multiple sites that were exact copies of Siteometrics can be found on the web.
In the Fall of 2007, Vantrix again started freelancing and contacted me. She suggested that we not only restore Siteometrics so that all of the SEO tools functioned properly, but that we expand the number of SEO tools and look at options for expanding the site’s value
It is now March of 2008. Siteometrics is now jointly owned by Vantrix and me. Since the Fall of 2007, all of the scripts, except for Keyword Research, are working properly (we are looking at options to provide a working Keyword tool). We have added Ask.com to several of the scripts and a Google SERP for Germany tool. The website has been revised to allow for rapid updates, the number of ads has been reduced and the home page is being structured as a blog
Stay tuned as we will be adding additional features. And, of course, please contact us with your comments and suggestions.
